Electric wheelchairs for rent in Istanbul

An electric wheelchair rental in Istanbul lets you explore a hilly city on your own terms. A joystick controls a battery-powered motor, so the user can drive along the Bosphorus, through the old city and up gentle slopes without being pushed. We deliver the chair fully charged to your hotel or home, show you how to drive and fold it, and collect it when you leave.

Our electric wheelchairs

Our fleet focuses on modern folding electric wheelchairs with lithium batteries, which are lighter and easier to transport than older lead-acid models. Typical features are:

  • a joystick that can be mounted on the left or right armrest;
  • a range of about 15–25 km per charge on lithium models, or about 10–15 km on gel-battery models;
  • a top speed of about 6–8 km/h depending on the model, a brisk walking pace;
  • a folding frame that fits in a car boot: about 26–30 kg for lithium models and about 45 kg for sturdier full-size models;
  • an electromagnetic brake that stops the chair as soon as you release the joystick.

Popular models include the foldable electric wheelchair with lithium battery, the long-range auto-folding lithium wheelchair, which folds at the touch of a button, and the large standard lithium wheelchair for taller or heavier users.

Folding or standard electric wheelchair?

For most visitors we recommend a folding lithium electric wheelchair: it fits in a taxi boot and is the easiest to take on day trips. A standard electric wheelchair has a wider seat, a higher weight capacity and a more stable frame, which suits users who will spend the whole day in the chair or need extra support.

Driving an electric wheelchair in Istanbul

Electric wheelchairs work best on the city’s smooth, wide routes: the Sultanahmet squares, the Galataport promenade, the Bosphorus shore from Beşiktaş to Ortaköy and the Kadıköy and Moda seafront. Use the T1 tram and the metro for longer distances, and take a taxi with a large boot for steep areas such as Galata. Avoid very steep slopes, stairs and deep potholes, and drive at walking speed in crowds.

Delivery areas and advice

Our electric wheelchairs are for use in Istanbul and are delivered to and collected from addresses in our delivery areas, including Istanbul Airport by arrangement. If you need help choosing the right electric wheelchair rental in Istanbul, contact our team: we will ask about the user, your hotel and your plans and recommend a model.

Battery, charging and range in practice

The range shown for each model is measured on flat ground with an average user. In Istanbul, slopes, cobblestones, cold weather and a heavier user all reduce it, so plan on roughly two thirds of the stated range for a hilly day. Every electric wheelchair rental in Istanbul comes with its own charger and a full battery at delivery. Charge the battery fully every night: a normal charge takes about 4–8 hours and the charger switches off when the battery is full.

Frequently asked questions

How far can an electric wheelchair go on one charge?

Our folding lithium electric wheelchairs typically travel about 15 to 25 km per charge, depending on the user’s weight, slopes and speed. That is enough for a full day of sightseeing.

Is it difficult to drive an electric wheelchair?

No. You steer with a joystick and the chair stops when you let go. Our team gives a short driving lesson at delivery, and most users feel confident within a few minutes.

How do I charge the electric wheelchair?

Plug the supplied charger into a normal wall socket in your hotel room. A full charge usually takes a few hours, so charging overnight is easiest.

Can an electric wheelchair fit in a taxi?

Our folding lithium models fold to fit in the boot of a standard taxi. They weigh about 26 to 30 kg, so a companion may need help lifting them.

Is there a deposit for electric wheelchair rental?

No. We do not take a deposit for any equipment. You pay the rental price in cash on delivery or by bank transfer.
