Lightweight folding wheelchairs for rent in Istanbul
A lightweight wheelchair rental in Istanbul is the best choice when the chair will be folded, lifted and unfolded many times a day. Taxis, tour minibuses, ferries and restaurant steps all mean lifting, and every kilogram counts for the companion who carries the chair. Our lightweight folding wheelchairs are delivered to your hotel or home, ready to use.
What makes a wheelchair lightweight?
Lightweight wheelchairs use an aluminium frame instead of steel. The typical models we rent:
- weigh about 11–14 kg, compared with 17–20 kg for a steel standard wheelchair;
- fold in one movement, with a backrest that folds down on many models to fit small car boots;
- have quick-release rear wheels on some models, making each part lighter to lift;
- carry users of about 100 kg, depending on the model.
Some lightweight chairs have large self-propelling wheels and some have small attendant wheels. Tell us whether the user wants to push themselves and we will prepare the right one.
Who should choose a lightweight wheelchair rental in Istanbul?
Lightweight wheelchairs suit travellers who move around the city by taxi or on organised tours, older visitors travelling with a partner who will do the lifting, and anyone who only needs the chair for longer distances while walking short ones. They are also the easiest to take on day trips to the Princes’ Islands or along the Bosphorus.
If the user is heavy or will sit in the chair all day, a sturdier standard wheelchair may be more comfortable. If nobody can push on hills, look at our electric wheelchairs, including folding lithium models that weigh around 20–25 kg.

Travelling around Istanbul with a light folding wheelchair
A light chair makes the most of Istanbul’s transport. Fold it for a yellow taxi, roll it onto the T1 tram through the old city, or push it onto a ferry from Eminönü or Karaköy to Kadıköy. In Galata and Karaköy the streets are steep, so plan your route along the waterfront and use taxis for the climbs. Around Sultanahmet Square, Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque the ground is mostly flat.
Ask your hotel for a room close to the lift and check whether the entrance has a step. Our team can advise on accessible routes when we deliver your lightweight wheelchair rental in Istanbul.
Clean, checked and supported
Every wheelchair is cleaned and inspected after each rental: brakes, tyres, folding joints and upholstery. If something does not work during your stay, call or message us and we will repair or replace the chair. Contact us if you need help choosing.
Lifting and folding without strain
Even a light chair should be lifted correctly. Before folding, remove the cushion and swing the footrests aside. Pull up the centre of the seat to fold the frame, then lift the chair close to your body with bent knees rather than a bent back. If the model has quick-release wheels, remove them first and lift the frame and wheels separately. In a taxi, place the chair upright in the boot with the wheels towards the back. Our team will show the companion each step at delivery, so folding takes only a few seconds by the end of the first day.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a lightweight wheelchair weigh?
Our lightweight folding wheelchairs weigh about 11 to 14 kg, depending on the model. Quick-release wheels on some models make each part even lighter to lift.
Does a lightweight wheelchair fit in a small car?
Yes. They fold flat, and on many models the backrest folds down too, so they fit in the boot of a small car or taxi.
Is a lightweight wheelchair less comfortable?
Not for most users. They have the same seat width as standard chairs, but the frame is lighter. Very heavy users or people who sit all day may prefer a sturdier standard wheelchair.
Can I rent a lightweight wheelchair for one day?
Yes. Most of our wheelchairs can be rented for a single 24-hour day, with delivery and collection at the times you choose.
