Standard wheelchairs for rent in Istanbul

A standard wheelchair rental in Istanbul gives you a sturdy, comfortable chair for full days of sightseeing, hospital visits or a stay with family. Standard wheelchairs have large rear wheels with hand rims, so the user can push themselves on flat ground and a companion can take over on slopes. We deliver the chair to your address, adjust it on the spot and collect it when you no longer need it.

What is a standard wheelchair?

A standard wheelchair is the classic folding wheelchair you see in hospitals and airports. Typical features of the models in our fleet are:

  • a cross-braced frame that folds sideways to about 30 cm wide;
  • 24-inch rear wheels with hand rims for self-propelling, and solid or pneumatic front castors;
  • a seat width of about 41–46 cm and a user weight limit of about 100–120 kg, depending on the model;
  • parking brakes on both rear wheels, armrests and swing-away or removable footrests;
  • push handles for a companion, often with attendant brakes on some models.

Some models, like our standard wheelchair with elevating footrests, let the user raise one or both legs. This is recommended after knee, ankle or hip surgery, or when the doctor has advised keeping a leg up.

When to choose a standard wheelchair rental in Istanbul

Choose a standard wheelchair when the user wants some independence and will be sitting for several hours a day. The large rear wheels roll more easily over the joints between paving stones and tram tracks than small transit wheels, and the user can move around a hotel lobby, a restaurant or a museum hall without help.

If the chair will be lifted in and out of taxis many times a day, a lightweight folding wheelchair may be easier for the companion. If only a companion will push and space is tight, a transit wheelchair is narrower. For hilly routes and long distances, an electric wheelchair takes the effort away.

Delivery, adjustment and collection

When you book a standard wheelchair rental in Istanbul you choose the delivery and collection times and the address: a hotel in Sultanahmet or Taksim, a home on the Asian side, a hospital or the cruise terminal. Our team arrives with a clean, checked wheelchair, sets the footrest length for the user and shows you how to fold it, apply the brakes and tip it safely over a kerb.

The rental is counted in 24-hour days. A delivery at 09:00 on Friday and a collection at 09:00 on Sunday is two days. You can extend the rental by sending us a message at least 24 hours before the agreed collection time.

Tips for using a standard wheelchair in Istanbul

  • Take a ride on a Bosphorus ferry: the main city ferries have step-free boarding ramps.
  • Use the T1 tram between Sultanahmet, Eminönü and Kabataş; low-floor trams make boarding easy.
  • Ask museums and palaces for their accessible entrance; many have ramps or lifts away from the main gate.
  • On steep streets in Galata or Cihangir, the companion should walk behind the chair going uphill and go backwards going down.

Every standard wheelchair rental in Istanbul from us comes with no deposit and support by phone and WhatsApp until the chair is collected. Not sure which chair to choose? Ask our team and we will recommend a model.

What is included in every rental

Each standard wheelchair is delivered complete and ready to use: two footrests or leg rests, armrests, working parking brakes and inflated or solid tyres. Our team checks the chair in front of you, sets the footrest height so the user’s thighs rest flat on the seat and makes sure the brakes hold on a slope. If you need a softer seat for long days, add a cushion from our accessories. During the rental you can call or message us at any time; if a tyre goes flat or a part breaks, we repair or swap the chair without extra cost when the fault is due to normal wear.

Frequently asked questions

Can the user push a standard wheelchair themselves?

Yes. Standard wheelchairs have large rear wheels with hand rims, so a user with enough arm strength can push themselves on flat ground. A companion can push using the handles.

What is the weight limit of a standard wheelchair?

Most standard wheelchairs in our fleet carry users of about 100 to 120 kg. Tell us the user’s weight when you book and we will prepare a suitable model.

Can I get a standard wheelchair with elevating leg rests?

Yes. Our standard wheelchair with elevating footrests lets the user raise one or both legs, which is often recommended after leg, knee or hip surgery.

How do I extend my wheelchair rental?

Send us a message by phone, e-mail or WhatsApp at least 24 hours before the agreed collection time. Extensions depend on availability and are charged at the daily rate.
